2019 Virginia Thespian Festival College Attendees

COLLEGE FAIR AND PRE-SCREENS
REGISTRATION OPENS SEPTEMBER 9TH - NOVEMBER 15TH
PURPOSE: The Virginia State Thespian Society will provide a forum at the Virginia State Thespian Festival where students may apply for university and college entry and possible scholarships. Space will be set aside where representatives from colleges and universities may meet with interested conference delegates.
AUDITIONS: Students who wish to audition will register for auditions on the festival registration site. Students may audition in acting, musical theatre, and technical theatre.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: University and college representatives offering entry or scholarships at the festival will primarily be interested in delegates who will soon graduate. Therefore, only those students currently in the eleventh or twelfth grades may audition. All delegates auditioning must attend the special auditions meeting on Friday or Saturday at the festival and bring completed materials (20 copies of one-page résumé).
AUDITION GUIDELINES: Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your assigned time for College Auditions.
The performance area will be approximately 10' by 5'. No special lighting will be available. You will be provided with one (1) straight back chair and one (1) small table. YOU MAY NOT USE ADDITIONAL SET PIECES. You will be allowed time to BRIEFLY set the stage. All auditions will be limited to a maximum of two (2) minutes for acting and four (4) minutes for tech. If you exceed the limit, time may be called.
DRESS: Dress nicely/professionally. Wear clothing that is simple and will allow easy movement for your blocking. COSTUMES ARE NOT PERMITTED INTRODUCTION/SLATING: Introduce yourself by name. Performers: Introduce the audition piece(s). Tech Presentations: State that you are presenting your “Tech Portfolio.” Your time begins after slating.
ACTING AUDITIONS: Select two one-minute contrasting monologues (humorous/dramatic; contemporary/classic, etc.) or one two minute monologue. MUSICAL AUDITIONS: Accompaniment to musical auditions may be live or recorded. You will be permitted to use a CD player. RECORDED ACCOMPANIMENT SHOULD CONTAIN INSTRUMENTATION ONLY! Auditions may be conducted on a slick floor which is not conducive to dance.
TECHNICAL AUDITIONS: Speak for four minutes on a prepared portfolio of designs and sketches which illustrate your expertise.
BRING: Twenty copies of your resume.
